San Marcos National Fair

by Abigail Enzana Nava

One of the most popular festivities in Mexico is the San Marcos National Fair which is celebrated in Aguascalientes State from April 25 to May 15. It is consider the most important fair of Mexico. Is really incredible the things you can find in this place, there are many activities taking place, among them the cockfighting where are participants from around the country and you can bet, people going to cockfighting enjoy a lot, the time of a fight is around five minutes maximum but it depends on the roosters and you can stay in the Palenque about seven or more hours, once you see a cockfight you cannot leave it and may be could become a passion. I wanted to do emphasis in the previous activity about cockfighting because the fair without roosters fighting is not fair, and is the same whit the horse races.

Besides cockfighting there are cultural events like regional dance the most allusive are  "bordadoras" and "pelea de gallos;" the music are "corridos," "sones," "mariachis" and obviously the famous banda. Is very common to find the people enjoying and dancing for hours in the central area neighborhood of San Marcos; is a big emotion to see the tipical dressing and all its colors. This beautiful tradition is opened for all the public.

The fair is completely supplied with artistic events, mechanical games artificial fires, especially for children looking for fun. Also you can visit the Taurino museum where do the "charrerí" and the bullfight. The town theater which is presented various artist of the moment and the garden and temple of San Marcos too. Out of the temple Is necessary mention the food in this fair, as all the food eat in other states of Mexico in Aguascalientes, the national fair offers delicious “tostadas, tacos dorados, tamales, gorditas, barbacoa, carnitas, pambazos, esquites, pozole” so on.

If you have an opportunity to visit this state and the national fair of San Marcos, do not let it go. You won´t regret about this wonder.
